Hey everyone. I'm a big fan of taking photos of surfing and am thinking about getting a little more zoom. All I have now is a Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6. I am hoping to get something for around $1500 unless I win the lottery and can afford the Nikon Telephoto AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4G ED. That is a dream indeed. I'm finding it difficult to narrow the field down and am wondering about af vs manual and the prime lenses. I'm new to photography so antyhing you share will be helpful. If you take a look at my site there are some surfing photos in the Vancouver Island folder where you can see what I'm able to reach with my 300mm. Thanks for the time and hopefully the advice.

Hmmm. I'd get a TC and give that a twirl. Your $1500 won't get you much in
the way of a long prime.

The only disadvantage is the Tele-converter will cut the amount of light
    by a stop or so.

In bright light, this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Well I have the 80-400VR myself and, love it. It is a 5x lense but, with the digital crop it is a 6.5x. They are just over $1500.
    I shoot therefore Iam.
