Does anyone have "Genuine Fractals"...

... and would be willing to do me a really big favor? I don't have the money to buy this software right now, but I would love to give my puzzle addicted Mom-in-Law one of my photographs of her cozy wooden cottage as a really big jigsaw puzzle.

The puzzle size is 20x30 inches and the photograph I am going to use is only ~ 9"x6" at 300 dpi. I tried to upsample in Photoshop, but it comes out somewhat blurry.

If someone has this program, I'd like to send the file on a disk via UPS and will include money and another disc to UPS it back to me. I know it's a big favor, but maybe somebody can help me out?

Alternatively, I'd be open for some intricate Photoshop method to upsample my pic, I tried the 10% thingy, but that didn't really work.

I hope this isn't totally out of line, and thanks for any offers or suggestions,
Jana

I don't have genuine fractals. But I Googled it and found plenty of sources to d/l for a trial period. Sounds like this would be perfect for you and you'd save on shipping as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

I have the program, an older version but, a fractal is a fractal. Do you want to try and email me the file, or if you have a smugmug account put the file somewhere where I could access the original and pm me the link.

I see BHAM offered to do the uprez for you, that is cool....at the GF home of OnONe software you can download the trial version and it will mke upto 20 fully savable files for you...the trick is to make sure to view the uprez before saving the file...that way y7ou can save upto 20 of your best and also do everything to the file in Photoshop before doing the GF up rez EXCEPT sharpening..don't know why but that was in their downloadable instructions for GF4 that I still ahve several trial saves left on.....I have yet to upgrade and still have GF3 (from the origianal software company: LIzard Tech)......great software especially now with it doing all of its stuff with only 1 clik.................also gives you the op of uprezing by "%" of by print size (inches X inches)...............

Good Luck and if the uprezed file isn't too big please let us see the outcome.

    Hi bham ,

Thank you so much for your offer and sorry for the late reply - I could have sworn I posted this in "Digital Darkroom Gear" and thought that someone deleted my post due to copyright/software issues...

I'd really appreciate your help and the original file can be found here:

    http://saltydogphotography.smugmug.com/gallery/3527019/1#229115453

It's the fourth and last pic in the gallery, titled Log Cabin.

The upsampled file needs to be 20" x 30" and the website does not offer guidelines as to the resolution needed. I would assume it to be 300dpi but 200 dpi would probably work as well if 300 is not possible. The resulting image file will be quite large, if it's too big for upload back to smugmug or if you have any other questions, please e-mail me at saltydogphoto@yahoo.com.

Again, I greatly appreciate your offer. Very cool and thanks a million clap.gif!

    Greetings,
    Jana

@ Art Scott: are you sure about those 20 files? I had previously checked for demo versions and read that you will get a watermark... But I'll check it out again, I also have some other pics that need upsampling for printing.

Ok. I upsized using GF and got a 45MB (saved a q12). I got it below the 24MB limit by saving as a q10. This is at 300 dpi.

For comparison I did a step up upres in photoshop 10% at a time. Its easy if you save it as an action. Got a 27MB file a q12, then save at q11 and got a 17MB.

Its a little over the 9000 x 6000 pixels. Problem is smugmug limits it to 48Megapixels and I got a 54MP.

I am gonna try a 275 dpi to get around 8250x5500 about 45MP.

    Bham,

Thank you so much for all your help and efforts, I hope this isn't too much of a pain in the butt.

Let me know if you manage to get the file down to smugmug size, 275 dpi should definitely be okay for printing.
