After 17 years, i finally decided to get my first DSLR, a Nikon D40x. My last SLR was a Nikon F2. In between both (F2 & D40x) i used point and shoot digicam's (Nikon & Kodak). While they were good cam's to record family activities i couldnt "play" with it or use it the way i did with an SLR.
Here are some shots with the D40x, most of which were edited in Photoshop.
Your comments please, good or bad
Sun glow..
Beyond Reality...(Infrared Photo with a Hoya 72 filter)
Dancers...(Masskara Festival, Bacolod City)
St. Didacus Pro-Cathedral, Silay City, Philippines
Masked Dancer (Masskara Festival- local festival)
Fiery skies...(Sunset photo), Talisay City, Philippines
All photo's taken in the Philippines.
Thanks for looking!

Hi Nicled,
All the shots you've posted look great
You live in the right country to get colourful shots.
Philippino's have very colourful celebrations.
I particularly like the Cathedral image.
Very nice series Nicled ..... Skippy

Many thanks Skippy, really appreciate your comments!
Im kinda impressed that someone who has alot of knowledge ( if so ) with photagraphy goes for a D40x.
Anyways. I like your photos very much. I love your way of composition!
I hope to see more of your work. You just inspired me to try some stuff out .

The D40x was an option because of its size and because it was the only one i could afford
I'll post more photo's as they come along.
Thanks for your comments!

I love the style you have. It kind of makes things larger or more real than real life!
Particuarly love the one of the house, and the one of the stream!
How did you get the one of the house to have that dark gritty feel?
Thanks Rhuarc! I added some clouds to the (old) house which was taken on a cloudless day (thank God for photoshop!) and increased contrast in PS.
Used the following workflow (by Jake Amora) on photoshop:
1. open image.
2. duplicate layer.
3. apply auto level on duplicate layer.
4. duplicate the layer where you applied auto level.
5. apply invert on new duplicate layer.
6. change blending mode to color;
7. add color balance layer. i usually boost the cyan value to -25 and yellow to -10.
8. apply sharpening tecniques.
Photo taken at the farm (my little paradise).

Mabuhay! I was in the Philippines from 1982 to 1985 and bought my first SLR at Subic Naval base in Olongapo. While I took a lot of photos, none turned out nearly as well as yours have. Keep up the good work!

I loved every one of these shots. You're lucky to have such great subjects in your backyard, and the sharp style you use is very compelling. I'd be interested to hear more about your process, since each of the shots is varied and creative. How much do you do in Photoshop and how much is on-camera?
your shooting.Very well done.
I think its 70% cam and 30% PS. What i usually do in PS are the usual- leveling, brightness/contrast/ curves, sharpenning. I still have to learn about layering, etc.
There are many subjects everywhere (even in your area), its just a matter of opening our eyes to see. When i shoot a scene, i linger around first, feeling it (the scene) and thinking about how to express that "feeling" on camera.
Since photography for me is a hobby and i dont do it professionaly (meaning for money), I am not compelled to rush, thus i take my time and enjoy the craft.
Photography has opened my eyes (again) on the beauty of God's bounty. I dont think i will be able to capture all of them in my lifetime But they are everywhere. And time is all that's needed to go out and shoot, shoot and shoot.
I try to go through photo's in the Gallery and see how photo's are created. I email or PM the photographers to ask them for their techniques. And i sort of try to emulate their style or improve on them. Drin has been very helpful in that aspect of education.
And yes, i learn so much from Azarro and his many styles and techniques. As he uses the same D40x i use, it inspires me seeing all his wonderful pictures!
I really miss seeing all of the overloaded cane trucks making their way to the cane mills. I remember seeing several that had lost part of their loads, etc. No, I still miss the Islands and all of the people I met there. Keep up the good work.
