Viewing photos on HDTV

I have been very frustrated trying to show family my photos on the new HDTV. Of course, all solutions that put photos on TV actually format them for SDTV, meaning 400 lines and 4:3. But my TV can show my photos in much higher resoluton than VGA.

Now I can hook my laptop to the TV, displaying in 1920 × 1080, but that is a pain in the butt. About the only other solution I know of is the 80GB PS3, ($600 is nuts) until I saw this press release:

Anyone know of other solutions to show photos in HD resolution?

My HD Tivo can do it. The newer ones are only $300 I think.

How do you get photos on the Tivo?

Why is it a pain? Can't you just have an extra monitor wire attached to your TV that you hide when you aren't using it, then just plug it in the side of your laptop when you are?

We have a media pc hooked up to the TV (because we got it for $250) that does a great job with this, but I'd be using the laptop solution if we didn't.

Of course, you can still find media PCs in the $250-300 range, so that seems to make more sense than a PS3 or that photoplayer.

Because the laptop isnt dedicated to this, and even though I do have a dedicated plug for the computer, its not like having a dedicated, always connected media PC like you have. That is an option of course...but I need another PC like a hole in my head (5 so far)

The pictures reside on your computer. A little server runs on the computer, and you run the "HD Pictures" application on the TiVo. Makes it really easy to share pictures with family without cramming in the computer room!

TiVo can also play your MP3 music library. Obviously the TiVo needs to be connected to your home LAN. I use a wireless adapter so there are no messy cables.
