Grist Mill

I've been in a bit of a slump since earlier this summer. Had a nasty injury that put me down for quite a while. Since getting back on my feet I've been busy with business and personal crap. Haven't be able to really get the camera in my hands to decompress. I can't remember the last time I actually posted a photo.

However, I did get one shoot in early November. The intention was to do this trip a couple weeks earlier for the fall colors but that didn't happen. I've actually wanted to do this trip for the past few years. My parents have a huge wallpaper photo mural of this grist mill amongst brilliant fall colors. It's been covering the one wall in their dining room for ... well ... a long time. A few years ago my mom stumbled onto where the photo was taken and since it's within a day's drive from home I've wanted to go and try to recreate it. Here's the result:

Wonderful shot Phil and just in time to still get some color in the leaves.

Great Picture. I think if you had all the rich fall colors in there it would distract from the mill & the falls (which is the more interesting part of the photo).

    Phil,

    Excellent shot. thumb.gif

I've shot Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock State Park, West Virginia many times and think that it is a great place to shoot. Let me know if you are planning on shooting there next year with the fall colors and I'll try to meet you there. Since you are so close you can keep me posted as to the peek color period and I'll be there with bells on.

The shot appears a tad flat to me. I would be interested in seeing it with a little contrast added - and maybe a mere touch of added saturation.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The injury still has a little way to go but is coming along nicely. I expect a full recovery with a bit more time.

Dixie - thanks for mentioning that. Appears that I pulled the wrong version when I went to do the upload. I've replaced it. This one should be better.

As for next year - I'm all for it. Remind me when it's closer to the time. Maybe we can get a few others in.

That's a great idea. I just ordered it as a puzzle for a Christmas gift for my parents. They're puzzle fiends so it's perfect. thumb.gif

    Phil,
Lets plan a trip for a whole group. I live in Charleston WV, and often take day trips. Let me know what you have in mind. My Dad had some great shots of it, particulary in the winter with snow.

I was thinking more along the lines of next year's fall colors. I generally hide when the snow starts to fly. I hate that cold stuff. :puke1 However, I imagine this place would look great with some snow and some ice flows.

I keep saying I'm going to make it out there for fall colors and I don't, too many busy weekends in the fall for me, but I hope to get out there for snow, if the snow behaves. mwink.gif

Phil, great shot! I have a similar one that cycles through on my screensaver (I use webshots screensaver) and I have to say that yours is much better. The color, clarity, and warmth are spot on!
