I just took delivery on a 488CR2 Manfrotto tripod and ball head.

In the tripod instructions it states:

"The equipment does not require regular lubrication, but if required, use standard lubricant oils or grease."

In the ball head (488CR2) it states:

"The heads are maintenance free. Do not lubricate with any oil or silicon."

    FWIW.

Probably the best thing is to clean it and keep it clean.

If you lube it, you'll attract more dirt and dust.
