To anyone interested in an informal photo trek in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park: My wife and I will be camping April 14-18 at Tremont Hills Campgrounds (last campgrounds on Hwy 73 going from Townsend, TN into the park). I will be doing photos in both Cades Cove and on Roaring Fork Nature Trail just outside of Gatlinburg. I just edited this post to change the dates. We've added an extra day on to the trip and will now be staying until Monday, April 18th.

We'll be happy to meet with anyone wanting to join us for photo shoots and photography talk. My photo objectives are pretty well planned out, but I will be happy to have any interested DGrinners join in the fun. I'm up and out early - like before the sun has even thought of coming up. I like to be in place and ready when the sun comes up. Those foggy, misty early mornings offer great photo ops in the Smoky Mountains.

I'll be arriving during the day on Thursday, April 14th and doing some afternoon shoots in Cades Cove and then plan on hitting Clingman's Dome for some sunset shots.

I'll be up early for Cades Cove on Friday morning and will be waiting in line about 30 minutes before the gate opens at sunrise. I will be going for the early morning mood shots and animals and then scenics throughout the cove until that evening. For all you horse lovers - the stables turn out the horses to pasture about an hour before sunset and there are some great photo ops there as the horses gallup, roll on ground, etc. They are very people friendly and if you aren't carefull they will come right up to the fence and nuzzle your lens with their noses checking for food handouts.

My wife will be arriving sometime Friday evening. Then we will be up early on Saturday to spend a good portion of the day on the Roaring Fork Nature Trail.

Any interested DGrinners can PM me and we will exchange cell numbers and setup our meets. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to meet some of you that weekend.

Everyone who wants to join up is welcome. Each person will be responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements. There are plenty of campgrounds, motels and chalets in the area.

I genuinely hope that some of you can make it. We'll make it a DGrinner fun weekend.

    Dixie,
It would be great to meet you and get together for some good shoots and some photo talk. Unfortunatly, like I mentioned earlier, my wife and I will be there the week before you. We are staying in a cabin in Townsend (Tuckaleechee Cove) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (7,8,9th).
It'll be interesting to compare shots a week apart.
Thanks for the info on CC.
Hope you have a great time at the races that weekend!
