It takes about 1 to 1.5 seconds for raw files to be rendered with Aperture on my macbook pro 2.2ghz/4gb using everything optimized for speed some of which is here:

I was wondering if a mac pro 2.66/x1900xt/8gb does this in about half the time. Ideally I want instant loading times of raws as if they were jpegs while flying through and rating and choosing pics with dual monitors, one of which is a 30" comparing multiple files at 100%.

I can't find any direct comparisons online, just a bunch of people saying that the mac pro should theoretically be better. If you've used both of these systems with aperture please let me know.

The Mac Pro is definitely faster. 2x faster? Maybe. The 30" display means more pixels have to be rendered... so you'll definitely want the X1900XT graphics card (which makes a big difference).

Leopard is also faster than Tiger with Aperture, so that's something to keep in mind. If you get a Mac Pro today it will come with Leopard pre-installed.
