Clients who refuse to use cc for ordering...

Does anyone have a form for ordering with a check or cash? I have a certain number of clients...and they do spend quite a bit of $$...who detest credit cards for whatever reason. And, they would like to have some sort of form they could download/print off that calculates their total and lists the images they want and mail to me.
Does that make sense? Does anyone here do anything like that with their smugmug site?

do you mean they want you to do the order with your credit card? and then send the prints to you? I'd go through the process to order them and see exactly what the charge would be, and up it a little to cover your time. :D

for clients like this I either do an in person order or have them order on the phone and send me a check.

I make very clear that I need payment up front. I can take their order on the phone but will not order any prints until the check is received.

Given this is a huge PITA, I have set a minimum print order for this type of fulfillment. Right now it's $200.

Basically, I think these are the people without a cc or with bad credit. Hey, they exist. Everyone makes mistakes (I shudder as I remember college!).
Anyway, I've been asked many times if I had a downloadable form that they could print off, fill out, and mail to me. I know I could do it with a PDF, but smugmug doesn't allow pdf's, do they?

I've run across folks who simply don't trust the web. I think the number of these folks is dwindling rapidly, but they do exist. I just go offline for these folks.

She can't do it at work because she can't use the shopping cart but can view photos (OK - maybe I buy this excuse a little) and doesn't really use the computer at home....but will get around to it eventually......not really thrilled on that one....

The way I remember this working before the internet is that you paid a fee for a "proof sheet". This fee was often applicable towards a future order, but was designed to cover costs of doing the proof sheet if the customer didn't order anything. They could then take the proof sheet and fill out a paper order form from which you'd process the actual order.

A given client presumably wouldn't spend the money on the proof sheet unless they intended to actually order something so it worked as a reasonable filter. If someone objects to the proof sheet fee, then you can simply tell them that they can avoid that fee from any internet terminal.

I handle all my orders through email. I have a price list that I email the client along with a link to their photos. They list out file numbers sizes and quantities.I email them a quote. I order. I get paid on delivery. I will not deliver without being paid.

It may seem like more leg work on my part, and it is....but it gives me more interaction with my customers. I like that. I also get to see and hold all of my photographs. I like that too.
