So I just made a 'sale.' I say that because I'm selling them to a friend, but a sale is a sale.

The purchaser just wants a copy of the pictures in digital form (for a website) and possibly some 4x6 prints just for fun.

So my question is how would you deliver these in terms of file formats, resolution, etc. From working with the newspaper I have a set of guidelines that say 300dpi, cmyk, certain aspect ratio, no larger than 800pix on a side, yada yada.

I'm currently thinking RGB, 300dpi, full size, *.jpg. Thoughts?

For what they want, I'd give them a CD with the full res file so they can print it any way they want, and a small file that's web or e-mail friendly.

Your making this way harder than it needs to be. Just export the full size images using image processor. Click here if you need to know about image processor.

Make sure to pay attention to the following:
    • Forget about the CMYK thing. Even CMYK printers understand RGB profiles. Let the computers do the conversion.
    • Attach a color profile of sRGB (or your preferred color space) If your not sure, use sRGB! It's the most widely used color space out there.
    • Just export the images as full size images. Don't worry about DPI. Your not likely to upscale images. And if your sending this to a professional printer. They will know how to upscale an image and have the software for it.

I'm making it complicated becuase the newspaper people are picky about this junk. I can't count how many times they've sent stuff back with nasty comments about not getting paid.

Plus it's for a friend who wouldn't know how to fix problems like that anyway.

    Oh well. Thanks again guys!

Then ask them for a set of guidelines for submitting images. Post it in here. And we will get you sorted out.
