Personal licence sales

Just wondering if many of you have used personal use licence sales potentially of the original file. I seem to have an inbuilt mistrust of this sort of sale- wondering how the originals might be used even allowing for the licence, there does not seem to be any practical way of policing it especially if the customer is on the other side of the world.
Assumimg I might just be being paranoid how much do you charge for such a use where the customer apparently wants to make large prints for home and office? I was sort of assuming around $20 for the original.

From the customer point of view how does this type of sale work in practice ?- do they get led onto a page of downloadable files that they have requested ?

Should perhaps add this is because of an email enqury I received for purchasing about 50 files for use by an individual in Brazil.

I actually have. Just one sizable sale & the client is also a friend--and cognizant of copyright issues & where I stand. For this sale I have no problems (she is even going to provide credit & links when using the files even though after paying for the files I'm not requesting it).

I agree it's difficult to impossible to effectively police the use. If you're not comfortable with it, don't offer the files for sale. Simple as that.

For how the customer sees it, yes they apparently get led to a download page. They also get an order confirmation email with a link back to a page where they can download. I know this because she navigated away from the page prematurely & called me seeking assistance. While I was prepping a file to send for her immediate need the email came through.

Oh, and don't forget you can offer smaller-than-original size files too.

Thanks Chris for the info - much appreciated.

Agree a lot easier if you know the customer and it's not many files - the initial enquriry was for 50 files in this case.
Although I have misgivings you can look it at it from a value added point of view - why should I worry if they do something else with the files that I'm not doing as long as I get some recompense in the first place ?
The file size can be an apparent problem with the macro shots I do - even a full size original is often less than 1mb because the backgrounds often have no detail so compress very well.
Think I will try to steer them to discounted prints - main problem I have now is the potential customer has poor English - they want to discuss it in Spanish or Portuguese :)
