The sculpture is actually called Cloud Gate but we all call it the Bean. I finally got downtown to take a couple shot of it. Did I do better this time with my WB Schmooo?

Wow Nick! You're getting a good track record with the Bean and the ladies of Dgrin lol3.gif

I love this sculpture and i've never seen a photo of it that I didn't like... but yours gets put way up there because you did it at night which makes the reflections so much more interesting!

I love how small the pedestrians are in relation to the thing. I've been to Chi-town a few times now and still have never seen this magic Bean. I should do someting about that. headscratch.gif

Your WB is fine! What a great shot! thumb.gif

For my taste, the first pic is too bisected - not sure which side is more important. Lovely exposure et al, so it seems like a small quibble, love the sky.

The second pic, however, I find very striking. A lovely cityscape culminating in an almost science fiction-like metal object at the end - very other-worldy, very interesting. Cool!

    Nick.... :wow

Stunning job! I've only been to the thing once, and then without my camera, and it was raining and bleak outside. You done Cloudgate good. bowdown.gif

I love those ladies of Dgrin!! iloveyou.gif Thanks April, Maxine and Steph. I liked the picture but never expected a response like that. I might just go shooting downtown more often. Steph the next time you're here let me know. Millenium park and the Museum campus are a great way to spend an afternoon or night.

Thanks for the great critique Sid. I guess I liked the differences in the two pictures. Even at 10mm the first image severely lacks the scale of the second image.

    Cheers,
Thanks Richard. I remember looking at your Chicago pics last year when you visited the city. I've lived here almost my entire life but have taken it for granted. You always see a city differently when you are visiting.

Thanks John. The trick with the people is to use long exposures and go at night on a weeknight when it's freezing out. You probably can't see it at this size but on the far left of the bean in the pano there is a ghost. There is a reflection in the Bean but no one standing in front of it. Spooky.

I also found too many people around and beneath the bean. I am going to Chicago this winter and I hope the weather will keep more people indoor this time.

I went to go shoot the bean at night a few years ago but I got punted out by security. :cry I guess the trick for getting people out of your shot (shooting when its freezing out) probably keeps the fuzz at bay as well. Nothing like getting hassled by Segway mounted security forces.

The Multi row pano is outstanding! clap.gifclapclap.gif

It used to be "illegal" to photograph the Bean with pro equipment but some people had a fit and now it's fair game. Security walked past me at least 6 times as I was taking the photos. Thanks for the props.
