I am really ignorant (not just noob - ignorant) of the process and trade language. Licensing of all forms throws me.
The print prices seem very low, so low it seems like diminishing returns for PP workflow time. From a business perspective it doesn't seem worth it.
The attraction to list the photos is for a tax write to shelter other income. I recently listed & added up my camera equipment for insurance purposes and was shocked (and I have yet to get the 300 & 70/200 2.8).
In general what is the average income from listing XXX number of photos.
Do you separate the best photos from the SM series to get higher margins?
Does SM have value to lead buyers to your site for more expensive pix.
Does anybody do freelance photo journalism.
Does branding add value (your name on pix)

Welcome to Dgrin
I am sure one of the experts will give you a better response, but here it goes.
The prices you see are Smugmugs defaults. For us Pros, we can mark up the prices to get a profit. It works out quite nicely and there are FAQs that you can review to help you get started.
It is tough to give statistics for sales as people take different pictures and advertise differently. The experts on this forum range from novice to full-blown photography pros. They have the incredible patience when asked questions. So don't hesitate. I have yet to find the support that can match this forum and Smugmug and I have been in IT for 20 years. They go above and beyond...it just blows me away.
Like I said, one of the experts will answer you, but hang in there as you will quite a lot from this place.
Best of luck
Ed

I'd recommend starting with the Photogs Resource List of Threads sticky in the Mind your own Business forum at - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=66709. There are some good links there, and there are also some good discussions scattered through Mind your own Business (http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29) that you might also find helpful.
