Decision Time!

I am plannng to buy a Digital SLR camera.
Have the following alternatives ...

Nikon D40X Twin Lens Kit
Digital SLR Camera ( 10 Megapixel )
with Nikon AF-S 18-55mm II DX G ED
plus Nikon AF-S 55-200mm VR G ED
+ 4GB SDHC
+ UV Filter + "V" Bag
at Indian Rs. 39995 + taxes.
(Details here)

or

Canon EOS 350D
Digital SLR Camera (8 Megapixel)
with Canon EF-S 18-55mm
+ Tamron AF 70-300mm Di Lens
4GB CF
plus UV Filter & V Bag
at Indian Rs.38,500 (all inclusive with two year warranty)
(Details here)

I would use it for semi professional purposes. Manily for online publishing!

Which one is better?
Would appreciate your opinion especially if you have hands on experience.

Thanks in advance! :thumb

Either camera will suit you just fine. Both are extremely capable cameras.

You may just want to get the camera body and then purchase your lenses separately based on your needs and what you intend to shoot.

I would recommend looking and touching them. I was on the fence between a Nikon D40X and a Canon Rebel XTi. The deciding factor for me was the user interface, I liked that the Canon gave me more direct access to "common" configurations, at least for me.

but also think about the future. not only must the camera fit your now but you have to consider if the brand has the lenses to secure your future needs because you will soon invest more and more money and it will be hard to swich.

in the case of nikon vs canon that shouldnt be too big of an issue but with smaller brands it may well be.

i own a 400d and like it a lot but that doesnt help you anything because there are plenty of d40 owners out there loving their cam. :D

    good luck !

Definately go to the store and play around with both... For me, i liked the way the D40 felt and I decided to go with the Nikon... sicne then i acquired a few used lenses which can be had for cheap... Be aware tha the D40/x will not autofocus with lenses that other than AF-S, AF-D <--these have an internal focusing motor... and it will not meter with older Ai, non-Ai, Ai-s lenses... but you can still take photos with lenses as old as 1959 :)

    Good luck - I was in the same spot a few months back <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/headscratch.gif" border="0" alt="" >

Both would give you similar results. I'd go more with which system you like and which body feels better.

I decided to opt forthe Canon EOS350D!
Just unwrapped the camera and it feels very good!
    :photo
    Thank you for your opinion!
I went to the store and HANDLED BOTH cameras.

I had used a Nikon FM 10 for many years and was a little in favor of Nikon.
However, the Canon FELT better in the hands and also the fact that it came with a TWO year warranty made me feel secure!

Just feeling my way around all those new gizmos!

    Thanks again friends bowdown.gif
for all the inputs and would soon be back after I click some pictures!

Thanks again and all good wishes for Xmas and the New Year! thumb.gif

Have fun with it. My wife uses a rebel XT and loves it. The grip is a bit small for my hands, but its great for carrying around due to its light weight.

postwhore.biz and photobucket.com offer free image hosting and facilitate hot linking. picasa has free photo hosting but doesn't support hot linking.
