These are my oldest with fresh faces right out of the shower after grueling soccer practices this evening. I'm trying to practice with a single light setup with a reflector.

Beautiful fresh faces! The colors are wonderful and they are so clear and crisp. I love it. I also like the catchlights. I'd like to know more about this sort of light set-up, so I'm curious to hear what the more experienced folks will say. Looks super to me! clap.gif

    Yeah, outstanding...
Agree with a lot of the comments above. Love #2, and you definitely nailed the focus.

I'm curious as well, what type of light is it you're using?

    Fantastic job.thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

Very low tech setup here. I fired an SB800 into an umbrella on my right. I did use a white reflector on my left for some fill (large foamcore board from Michael's- $3.99).

These were taken with a D2Xs and 85mm, f1.4 @ f7. The flash was controlled with an on camera SU800. I set this whole thing up in 5 minutes and took a total of 10 photos. A good example of Nikon's flash system and how well it works.

Now that's a compliment. It's easy to nail the focus at f7.ne_nau.gif

    Yes, joining in the applause!

When I looked at your profile I saw D70 and I thought "Impossible", but you have explained it with the D2Xs and the nice lens. Nice job of lighting.

These are absolutely gorgeous images! Commercial magazine worthy IQ and lighting. WOW!

The expression and hooded towel in #2 is my favorite (what is your son's name? I know Steph and Sam, but I can't seem to recall his!!!), but the fake background kind of ruins it for me.

    Lynne,
    That's my son, Evan.

The clouds were just done on a lark. I had just taken a shot of some interesting clouds to use as a background on some of my photo paintings.

Here's the original without the photoshopped background.

I like #2 the best. I like the back ground--but maybe softened/blurred a little bit would make it blend with the subject better?

    Large pupils
    Mitchell,

I love your shots, but some people might find the large pupils a little erie - like shots of the little girl in 'The Exorcist'. On the other hand, some people like the large pupils for that 'deep look' into the soul.

Anyway, you can shine a bright light in your subject's face for a few seconds, and then turn it off before taking the shot. This makes the pupils shut down a bit for a more normal look.
