Being a recovering green setting on selector switch abuser . I have learned to embrace the M. WIth work being slow at the end of the year it has giving me more time to practice and appreciate the Manual settings of the D300. After trying the P, then S and A, I was not satified until I got in touch with my inner M. I am still using AF though, it is a f12 step program.

This guy flew right through my field of view when I was tracking a flight of Pintails made me jump.

Those GBH's tend to sneak up on you out of nowhere.

Good shots using "M"... Did you have to go through a 12 step process.. or just hit it Cold Turkey.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Manual Settings
Yes it is a long road to recovery. I am finding that the D300 makes it so much easier to adjust setting than my D50. All the controls are there.
The 170-500 Sigma has help a great deal to reach out and get the capture.
But watching the metering and the histogram display after the shot is giving me a greater feel for the settings. It is like reloading ammunition for competitive shooting once you get the ballistics of the load right to the rifle you hit the bullseye more consitently.

clap.gif I thank the forum for the knowledge I have gleaned from the pages lots of great work represented here, I have a lot of work to do yet. Fun part will be getting there.
