I recently met jc, and we met yesterday morning, and drove up to Pier 7 in San Francisco to try and catch a sunrise.

Here are a few images from the early morning.

We stipped at this bulding on the way out with what I would call budget decor.

    Sam,

I like the decor shot. :) About the boardwalk shot, where did you shoot from? If you go up to SF for sunrise shots in the future, I would like to come along.

All the waterfront shots were shot from Pier 7, just north of the Ferry Plaza building. The "decor" shot is of the Defenstration building, on the corner of 6th Ave & Harrison. Here's one of my shots:

I head up into SF or Marin to take photos of the sunrise several times a month. I leave Redwood City no later than 6 am in order to be there in time - not miss any of the wonderful colors of the pre-sunrise dawn. As the sun comes up earlier and earlier (now that we are passed the solstice) it will mean getting up even earlier as weeks/months go by. This is the best time of year for sunrise - the sky is often dramatic, wood fires add to atmospheric haze (creating color), and the sun comes up "realtively" late in the morning. However, it's always a gamble, you never know if the sky will cooperate and let the sun thru, or if it will be foggy, or overcast, or empty sky that doesn't color up well.
