how do i format a seagate 6gb St1 drive to use on my canon 1d2n
i got 2 for christmas and cant format this either on my camera or computer?
any help is appreicated..
So this is a compact flash formatted drive (i.e. Micro-drive)?
You can't format it in camera just like you can with a normal compact flash? I have used a micro-drive (from IBM) with my 1D mark II so it should be fine in your N. But your post is a bit light on specifics.
oh, i think these are micro drives.. i got them as christmas gifts and i always used CF card, and never used mirco drives..
anyway, i put them in my 1d2n and it wont format, so i tried to format through my computer windows xp and it still wont let me format, so i dont know if i need to do something to format these cards, and dont even know if they will work on my camera?
Unless you can format them, it's unlikely you can use them.
Do try the steps outlined in that MS Knowledge Base article. If you can't
format them that way, then you might need to exchange them.
One other question, do you have another camera you can try and format
them in?
yeh, i dont have another DSLR body, have alot of film bodies though.
i think i may give the sender a call and let them know that they are not compatible with my camera and see if they can return them.. thanks for your help
Most flash memory and micros drives are formatted to fat12 while windows based PC are either fat16 fat32 or ntfs. While windows is backward compatible to be able to read fat12 it is not compatible to be able to format.
Normally these drives will come with a driver that has to be installed so that formatting can take place. There is also a problem of various types of micro drives not being compatible to certain manufacturer types of cameras.
Been looking on the internet and these micro drives come in two flavours (see first link below). I have had a quick goole, check out the links below and there is plenty more info on google:
