I didn't know we had these guys around (Memphis, TN) until I told a friend I was hoping to plan a trip to Florida to get a shot at them. He replies, "I see them all the time when I go jogging!"

Well, it turns out there is this small lake in a nearby city park that has two islands in the middle (kinda like the Venice Rookery and there are a bunch of Herons there. To make it even better, they are so accustomed to the joggers, you can get pretty close. Here are a few captures.....I can't wait to get out there again and especially to see if they nest on the island during breeding season.

Very nice, and it is very good when you get some that are not skittish to the point of paranoia like many GBHs. thumb.gif I like the detail you captured.

Yeah, paranoia is the right word. Saw one a while ago outside my office...took off when i stuck my head around the corner and it must have been a hundred feet.

btw....I'm kinda new to posting here...why are the thread titles sometimes BOLD and sometimes not??
    thnx

Great captures. I particularly like the last one for its detail and sharpness.
BTW I'm curious about the BOLD titles as well.
