I love reptiles. They always make such great subjects. And I love that the boys are so comfy with them. thumb.gif

Jen, my boys have had some crazy critters as pets most adults have never even see in real life. They love their dragons, I had a sit down conversation with his teacher about how Elliott does indeed have dragons thats eat crickets and salad lol. The kids for the most part are great with them :) They have cousins who are considerably older and deathly afraid of their "pets".. I love that they are so well rounded with animals.:ivar

Great dragons. Love their names... They can't do anything else then pose nice with such names.
The colors are so soft, I have never seen them in real life! Time to go and find an aquarium with reptiles.
Funny that they have the "beards" on the side of the head.
Great shots, and lovely that the kids do like them too.

their "beards" actually turn black when they are stressed/upset although neither of our dragons have ever done it before. We did have a Canon but unfortunetly she failed to thrive, so the replacement animal was the male whom we named Kodak.. we were thinking of naming him Olympus, but Kodak seemed so much more fitting rolleyes1.gif Bearded dragons in general get quite large.. these are babies. For some reason they arent as "cute" when they are grown up, as they get older their spikes do get quite hard and very big too. They are by far our most expensive animal to keep.. they were one of the least expensive to aquire, are very social but a bear to feed.. they consume approx 1,000 crickets and 1,000 mealworms a month. They also eat a bag of Spring Mix salad a week! Thankfully they wont eat as many insects the older they get.. the first year or so is the most expensive, as they get older they eat more vegetation than insects.

What do you do with them when they get big? Can they stay in your house?
Do they go back to nature or a zoo? Where does one get 1000 crickets?
Where do they live when they live in Nature? Make sure they don't have babies... ;o)))

one dragon can live in a 55gal tank, right now as they are babies they share the 55gal, we will get another 55gal when they are full grown and the stand can hold two tanks one on top of the other.

We do have a male and female with intentions to breed them. They top out approx 24" long tip of nose to tip of tail..so they arent terribly large, definetly managable. We go to a reptile supplier to get our feeders in bulk. A box of 1,000 is approx $25.00. 1,000 meal worms is about $18 depending where you go.. if you go to the local petstore they cost .10 each, when you talk that price it would cost us a fortune... They actually live in Austrailia in the wild.. they do not exist in the US in the wild.. not sure why, im sure they could in the "desert" states.
