Canon FD to EOS adapter focus distance question

There are a couple of low cost adapters on ebay without an
optical element. It says that one will loose the ability to focus
to infinity with this adapter because of the increased distance
between sensor and lens.

Is there a way to calculate the maximum focus distance
for a given lens on such an adapter?

Portrait FD lenses would really be interesting if they would
focus to like 30ft or more.

And what about macro lenses, they should focus just fine
for close up work right?

Here is a link to a thread in a manual focus lens forum - there is a chart (sixth post) that list the "register distance" for many lenses and cameras.

If the registers distance is maintained, then infinity focus will be achieved. I really don't know if your portrait FD lens would focus to infinity or even to 30 feet, but for macro or closeup work there should be no problems.

Perhaps you could join the forum and ask.

Another great resource for FD lenses:

Let us know how you made out - I'm interested too.

    Manfred:

I just found some more stuff on one of the links:

Canon actually makes an adapter for FD lenses to EOS bodies, and it seems that the full range of focus is maintained (maybe).

Wow these are great resources Glenn, thank you for
posting them here!! I will defenitly ask the ppl in the
other forum. I've read about the official canon fd2eos
adapter and learned that it is long time discontinued
and that used ones are rare and expensive. Nonetheless
    great links!
