Yup. It's not an buy/sell offer just a review at Canon
Imaging Center in Salt Lake City and talk about how
you could get one. But not a concrete offer like the
    on the link I posted.

If you can afford that lens, I don't think shipping costs ought to be a problem...

    From B&H's website:
The Canon 1200/5.6L USM, the longest fixed telephoto lens ever built by Canon, contains 13 elements (2 Fluorite) in 10 groups and focus' down to 49.5'. With an angle-of- view of about 2° on a full-frame 35 mm camera, calling this lens a 'tele' is like calling King Kong a monkey.
Built-to-order by Canon from 1993 to 2005, each lens was hand-crafted at the rate of about 2-per-year and a delivery time of about 18 months. Only a dozen-or-so were ever made. Who bought them? National Geographic magazine and Sports Illustrated are known to own a couple, the Feds probably have a few squirreled away somewhere, and a few well-heeled photo enthusiasts.

This particular lens is extremely clean inside and out. Included with this lens is a leather slip-on 'lens cap', the original fitted aluminum trunk case, a custom trunk case with wheels that holds the original trunk case, and a prodigious measure of ego satisfaction. Weighing in at over 36lbs and an overall length of 33 inches, a sturdy tripod and pan/tilt head is highly recommended.

    Pack mule not included.

Interesting that they have it in their online store... do they expect someone to just charge his/her credit card and have it shipped? ne_nau.gif

That lens has been there quite a while... I stumbled over it a few months ago when I did a search for "canon lens" and nearly fainted as I was scanning the price column!

Funny story: I forget what the show was about, but my DH was watching a documentary which included an interview with some paparazzi who were discussing some of the ways in which they worked. Two old-style, British tabloid press 'togs who got to talking about long lenses. The interview apparently ran something like this:

"Well, yeah. I mean we've got some pret'y long lenses. 'ERE, mate, go and get the Hubble out will ya?"

His buddy goes and wheels out this HUGE box, and they hoist out this immense lens which they rest on another guy's shoulders.

"This one 'ere, yeah, this one's special. A rea pita to use, so you only get it out when you've got sumfink really good. You know, like Madonna's tits, or Prince Harry gettin' some on the beach or sumfink."

Proudly pulls out a picture of a plane body, showing the numbers on the side.

"Took this wiv that thing. Plane was at cruising altitude".

I have trouble seeing a long white lens without this hilarious exchange flashing into my mind (and I assume the lens at B&H is probably the kind they were talking about.....!!!)
