Some English Seascapes....

Hi All,

Last night I had the pleasure of shooting with Gubbs for the second time. This time we decided to go further away from home - 114 miles to be precise to the Isle of Portland on the Dorset coast. After 2 1/2 hours driving we were there.

Unfortunately, the weather was not following the will of the weather forecasters & in typical British fashion was doing its own thing.

So we amused ourselves for a while by climbing all over rocks

Then, just as we were about to give up, we managed to hit a bit of good fortune - the sun showed a slither of its power near the horizon. Luckily we were in place to capture the brief moment before it passed.

Then it was another 2 1/2 hours back home. Mind you, time in the car really does fly when you have a friend to talk to :-)

Here are my best captures from the evening:

1 - 3 Shot stitched panoramic of Pulpit Rock. Taken using my 20D & 17-40 f4L. Exposure 20 seconds, f11, ISO 100, RAW. Processed in Phase One Pro & Ps CS.

2 - Here are two very long exposure shots (around 3 1/2 minutes each). A B&W 106 ND filter was used to slow the shutter speed down. The rest of the exposure info reads f16 @ ISO 100.

3 - Finally, my shot of the night. A tidal rock pool in the foreground with the rugged coast behind it. A Hoya polarizer was used to minimise reflections from the surface of the pool. Exposure was around 1 1/2 minutes, f16, ISO 100.

So the shoot was salvaged & both of us went home tired, but satisfied. But there is a nagging thought - how much better the shots could have been if we had the correct light!!!

Yep...you've to love that weather....
Yesterday there was quite a sunset going on. Shame we didn't get lucky :-)
