I need to get an 8x12 print framed to hang in a local cafe and I noticed that most of the other photos in the cafe are framed with borders around them. I have the dimensions of the wall space where the frame will go (not on me right now) and I'm trying to figure out how to pick a frame size that will alow for a border, and where / how to choose the border as well. Any Suggestions?

You mean a mat. I prefer to use a 16x20 frame for my 8x10s to give a nice, wide mat. That might work, though to keep proportions about the same, a custom 16x22 might be better (see americanframe.com or framedestination.com for kits).

Two standard sizes for an 8 X 12 print would / could be 12 X 16, or 16 X 20. I prefer the wider border, (mat). It seperates the image from the wall, background, and helps you focus on the image.
