These were used in the studio with the D100 (now sold) and performed flawlessly. I've since switched to a dedicated studio flash system.

Very tempting... Get two flashes for 160 or a SB-800 for twice that... I'm going to use them in manual mode anyway... choices...choices...

I don't believe so Shane... I used them cabled in manual mode, stuck with f/8 or f/11 and varied my shutter speed. I also left these units @ 1/4 power and found they had adequate power. I also used these with the Sony F717... way back when! (o;\ These are very versatile.

But here are some links for you to read more about these units...

I believe the 26's had an IR trigger/sensor for slaveability.

Anything else you're aware of Michael? ...or are they basically the same? What about their flash output?

OH, and just to add other aspects of these flashes I'm aware of... The 28's do have PC and 3 pin Nikon sync connectors on the side. Both of these also have the built in bounce card and WA lens disbursement cover. In manual mode they zoom from 24-85mm and down to 18 or 20mm with the WA cover in place.

The heads will also bounce straight up and spin 180 degrees. ISO is 100-8000. Power is from full to 1/64th.

    here is some info....
I should not share it as all it does it make the premium for this flash go up$.
I really want another SB800, but this and the SB-80DX are on my list as well.

Thanks Michael... I was also looking for 26's when I got these 28's. And it seems that the 26's are still fetching a bit over $100/ea these days.

    and....
Yup the 26 are around $100 and the SB-80's are around $135-$150.

What actually kills me is the SB800. People are selling and buying these used (no warranty) for close to $300 + shipping - BHvideo is selling them NEW for $315+ shipping. Why on earth do people buy used (no
warrant) when they could spend another $5-15 and get a new one??
