I'm in search of a rebel xti. I've never had DSLR and I'm thinking this may be the best budget option to start with

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP. I HAVE FOUND ONE AND WILL BE PURCHASING IT. I AM SO EXCITED:clap

2.5 hours? give it some time lol3.gif

May want to add what price range you're looking for, perhaps some other Canon DSLRs that our users are holding onto might fit the bill?

I honestly don't know what price range I'm looking for. I've seen what they go for new, and I've also seen some pretty crazy deals here that include camera bodies and some lenses, for a steal. Being a total know nothing about the DSLR, I don't know what price range would really be fair to ask for.

Check out Dell.com They had the XT for $399 the other day. That for me is a pretty good price for a brand new camera.

Your budget would be really helpful in trying to sort something out.

I've seen the body only for like $300 on comparative shopping sites. That would be amazing, but probably unrealistic. What do you all think would be a good price to look for? Also would it be better to look for the body only, or with lens? I appreciate your help as I'm clueless about DSLR's.

What kind of photography are you going to be doing? That's a place to start. That and a budget. Then you pick the lenses that support the goal, and then you pick the body to support that. Starting with the body might be backwards if you get an inappropriate lens for your goals.

OK see this is good! I will mainly be taking photos of my children, our vacations. Typical family things. I find with our fuji, the shutter is so slow that if my baby smiles and I go to get a picture of it, I miss it, because the shutter speed is so darn slow. I need a camera to take pictures yesterday, know what I mean. I want to be able to take our holiday card photo etc. I want clear pictures that are well focused and I'm just not getting that with the camera we have now. I think that because I'm on maternity leave right now, my budget would really have to be somewhere in the $500 and under range, and somehow I don't think that is a number that is going to find me anything.

I sold my XT for $375. From the sounds of it the basic XT or XTi kit owuld be a good start for you. Get a feel for the camera and learn the ins/outs of it.

Take a look at the Dell site, they have good deals.

Tom was very kind to offer up his Canon Rebel XT and I couldn't say no. I also bought a kit lens for cheap off another board. I stayed well within my projected budget and have money left over to purchase a UV filter, and save for a nifty lens.clap.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
