    Bang!
Just thought I should declare publicly that I have, in fact, pulled the trigger. Expecting a UPS delivery tomorrow. . . .

I almost pulled the trigger myself but I'm just too used to 28mm as the starting point for my focal length. Here is a real world review of the tool:

I love my G9 but I am also very tempted by this new camera from Sigma
    http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08013108sigmadp1.asp
Big sensor, sharp 28mm lens. Sounds like it will be a good one.

For motorcycle touring the G9 is still a better option with the zoom. Lately I have been just throwing my 30D in the tank bag with my 17-55 F/2.8 on it.:D

I have yet to read a bad review of the G9. They're hard to find in stock anywhere.

I've been shooting an S80 for the 28mm. I'm going to miss it, but there are so many other, worthwhile features on this camera. Besides, I think I'm going to dig having a 200mm equivalent focal length on a walkaround camera. . . .

The Sigma broke the big sensor market, but a friend who knows says the Foveon sensor image quality is so-so and it will be a year or two before we see a sensor like that in a Canon or other mainstream brand.

I got tired of waiting for an APS-C in a compact body. It'll come, but I'll take a few thousand images in the mean time.

Indeed, it does sound like a very nice camera. The most critical review I've read is by Sean Reid at www.reidreviews.com (a subscription site). Even when he is critical of some aspects of the camera (controls, manual focus, optical viewfinder), he still enjoys many others. Have fun with your new camera!

Thanks! Been a long time fan of Baldy's other site and Smugmug.
just found out about this site, and I haven't ridden for ever, I might as well pick up photography again. Just so much to learn all over again.

Oh, Ian, you KNOW I did. It's a long haul for fish and chips, but it's worth it. There were 11 of us, up and back on the 58. I have to attend a retreat in Lake Arrowhead next weekend (22-24). I'm really hoping this weather holds out so I can ride.

    How's that KTM treating you?

P.S. thanks for the encouragement on the G9. It was a really good decision.

I took the KTM out for a flog the other day. If you are familiar, headed up to
Alice's, down 35 to Black Road (ends at 17) then back over the hill to Santa
Cruz, North on 1 to Hwy 9 and back home. In all, 140 or so miles...not like
riding the GS. 140 is like all day on the GS. But it's a LOT of fun thumb.gif

I like the lunch ride idea. My friends all giggle when I tell them I rode 600
    miles for a burger :D
