Got these shots Monday at the local wildlife park. The GBHs are nesting, there are about 6 nests high up around the alligator area.

Another twig for the nest....

I like that third shot. The ruffled feathers of the one already in the nest are quite cool.

Excellent captures Jean. We have 3-4 sets of GBHs nesting at the Viera Wetlands and its fascinating to see the GBHs build their nests.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks for the kind words, Mike & Harry. I go to the park often and will enjoy following the pairs as they hatch their young, too.

One of the birds on that nest has only 1 foot, its other leg has a stub down near where its foot would be but it gets around pretty well, just a slight limp.

I really like number 3. Make sure you post more as the nest develops.

Hi Jean.. Great shots. We have quite a few nesting pairs here. I watch them fish and make trips back and forth to the nests all day long.

One day I snuck over and waited under the tree for the adults to bring lunch. It was dead silent until they showed up at the nest.. then there was the biggest racket you ever heard, I thought they were killing their young up there. As soon as mom/dad left.. total silence until the next trip.

Thanks Steve. This nest is an easy one to watch from across the gator area, very high up in a palm tree and open to watching. I will be going back regularly and will take photos to share.

Thanks for the kind words, Chris. I remember hearing the young herons last year but didn't have the lens to take much in the way of photos. Since this nest is in a ideal spot for watching I hope they are successful hatching a couple of young ones for me to document.

Sorry, got confused, I have photos of another pair "next door" to this pair, too. These are in a tree next to the ones in the palm tree, both are quite open and will be easy to watch.
