Well I have not qualified for the POTY on dgrin but I managed to get myself qualified on another photo site (uses smugmug for hosting so I feel safe to post :wink) I am one of 42 qualified and the final contest was to do a 2, 4, or 6 page photo essay of 'your town'. All submitted entries will be placed in a book created on Blurb and the winner gets some pretty nice prizes.

Not being a photoshop guy this was a bit overwhelming and frustrating of an assignment, but after 4 or 5 hours today and a little tutoring I completed my entry and submitted.

Here is a link to the 6 pages I created (pages 1&2 are combined).

Photo Essay

Congratswings.gif on making it that far.

I looked at your essay and it is awesome. The layout is perfect...you should pitch it to your town hall/tourist committee about using your essay

Very nice Aaron! Can't wait til you tell us you won. :D

I totally think you should contact the city about your photo essay, maybe the chamber or at the least the committee that is doing the branding thing. Or the PRL.

    Good luck!

Really nice, Aaron! I still remember the time months ago I first saw your shots of this tower, before it was completely gone. One of the things I associate most with your name, photographically, are the beautiful skies that accentuate the vast space of the American desert, putting unique Arizona subjects into the foreground.

Best of luck and I think you did a great job here. thumb.gif

I will send off e-mails tonight after work to the city and see what happens. I am still trying to work out a reoccuring piece for 85239 magazine as well deal.gif . Already dropped a proposal for that- now just have to wait on the new editior to get back with me. ear.gif

I really liked all the shots, they are very clear and crisp and you assembled them pretty well. I haven't seen your competition, but i don't think you will have any trouble with these ones!

I haven't seen the competition either. We are sending them directly to someone and they will not be posted until after Jan. 20th. A lot of people were unhappy with having to do a book design and most had no experience so hopefully I have a good shot here.

    I can do is wait.

Funny you should mention that one!

I submitted my designs to the city council members, parks and rec department, and chamber of commerce. Not even an hour later I got a call from one of them.

That very page will be the new cover of the Phone Book Directory going to print tomorrow wings.gif

Over 18,000 copies will be printed. Talk about getting my name out there!! wings.gif

Well, you've gone and done it now. Time to spend a bunch of money on direct mail pieces to everyone who might remotely resemble your market. You really MUST strike while the iron is hot. As SOON as those directories hit the street. If you don't exploit this, it'll be nothing more than a nice souvenir in a few months. THEN quit your day job ylsuper.gif

Not sure about direct mailings but I will be making some stops to the local businesses with some examples of work.

Won't hurt to show them my work is on the cover of the phone book. rolleyes1.gif
