New year, new sunsets

Due to the recent storms we had very unsual weather/cloud patterns lately. So on Wednesday I decided to visit my favorite sunset vista to see if I get any non-trivial sunset shots. My hopes came true: I got some very nice "after sunset" images, and also caught my second(!) green flash :ivar - even though a tiny and faint one.:dunno

1: Capturing sunset:

2: That's Ventura, Pacific ocean, shelf oil rig and Channel Islands on the horizon (very faint due to haze) - all in all about 50 miles visibility:

3: Green flash - 100% crop:

Great reds and blues. No sunsets like in the States I say... They always seem more impressive then in Europe... Love the colors, especially in number four. I am a sucker for reds...

    Natural beauty!
I love #7 and the line of car lights in #5 . . . And #2 is wonderful with all the haze and the barely visible Catalina Island skyline. . . really looks like So Cal to me!

Wow, Nik! The sky was literally exploding out there. Beautiful captures clap.gif

The last one is particularly abstract. It almost looks like the reflection of a sunset in a lake :D

Well... I saw a couple of sunsets in Paris which I'd love to have captured. Also, in different parts of fromer USSR I've seen some truly amazing ones.
But, heck, I like US sunrizes/sunsets a lot, esp. considering the fact these ones are pretty much happening next to my home...mwink.gif

    Thanks, Steph!
Yes, it was a bit unusual. I never seen this particular pattern here before (in 6 years).
And yes, I did flip a couple of clouds-only shots to get a bit more surreal feeling...mwink.gif

Nice sunset shots, great clouds and colors. I've seen two green flashes here near San Diego, was kinda neat!
    Have a great day!

    Nikolai,

Great stuff! You definitely captured some wild colors, almost psychedelic like. It's always a treat to watch this kind of display, and having a camera is icing on the cake. :D

Heyya Dave, long time no hear! thumb.gif
Thank you for your kind words!
Yes, it was a treat indeed. I basically went out on a hunch hoping there will be an interesting sunset. At 4 pm the whole western sky was almost clear so I was kinda "meh, maybe I should cancel". But there still were some clouds over the Ojaj area, so I decided that in the worst case scenario I'll spend 30 minutes alone on my favorite hill. To my excitement, the clouds started forming on the West around 4:30, and by 4:45 the whole multilayered setup was already there (sunset was an 5:00).
    Cheers! 1drink.gif
