Well, here's my third photo. This one took 56 takes before I got it right. I have a headache.

that's really good - ps out the white hightlight and my personal preference would be to get rid of some of the noise. But I would think that you intended the noise to be there.

    nice
That's much better-but it's up to you which one you enter.

now I'm just going to be picky :-)
There's a bit of noise in the shadow right at the base of the vase.

I kinda like the noisy version better. Nice lighting. But maybe a little blown out on the top of the bottle?

i like the last version the best, but i think id like it alot more with something dribbling out of the vase/bottle. or, ooooohhhh, how about turning the bottle on its side, perhaps elevated a bit, with somehting bright and vibrant pouring out of it and pooling on the floor?

I really like the last shot. The only thing I can pick on is it seems to be leaning a bit to the right (my right as I sit in front of it). Is that meant to be, or can you straighten it up a bit? Otherwise I think it's a fantastic entry!!clap.gif

Edited to say: After looking again, I think the leaning look may just be an optical illusion. Your surface edge looks spot on...so maybe it's just my ole eyesne_nau.gif .

I keep flip-flopping between the clean and grainy version. Initially the photo looked too "clean", which is why I added the noise in the first place. You may be right about the blowout. I'll try reshooting it tonight. Thanks waxy. thumb.gif

My take is that the noise looks tooooo digital. There is too much of it, if you are going to use it.

Plus, I put noise in something once and Andy noticed immediately, didn't know I had put it in. He did not like it.

    That is a thought there.

    I like the bottle idea.

Thanks Natalie. Actually, the bottle was leaning slightly to the right in the first photo. I fixed it for #2 & #3.

darn you dan!!! ug, you're makin' me look bad ovah here! rolleyes1.gif

I have to say the 2nd shot with the noise and hot spot removed is my favorite. I love the grain, makes everything so connected despite the contrast.

IMO, I think if you could get the lighting just perfect so that all the shadows and highlights form a more perfect geometric replication then you'd have this shot perfect!

if you're unsure of what I'm talking about, look at the shadow at the bottom of the bottle. see how there's just a tad more to the right than on the left? the same happens on the neck of the bottle as it goes into the perpindicular sides of the bottle.

    you rock as usual!

I really like this shot. I prefer the noise to the clean version. It adds more character or something to me. Maybe it just reminds me of the old darkroom days...iloveyou.gif

Whatever version you choose, this is going to be a really strong entry. Good luck with the re-shooting.

I think that this shot does a nice job of demonstrating simplicity. I has that clean and simple feel.

I used my standard lighting equipment:

    15035624-M.jpg

One light was setup above the bottle:

    17669926-M.jpg

The other was to the right side. Here's the original photo shot in raw:

    17669927-M.jpg

After adjustment for white balance and exposure:

    17669925-M.jpg

I then converted to bw, cropped, cloned out the bright spots, and adjusted the shadow on the neck of the bottle:
