Ive been looking at the submission requirements to have them even look at your photos...man what a nightmare of hoops to jump through ..and then from what im picking up, they want $50 an image from you to show your photos for 2 years.

Is this a deal with the devil ?

I think its similar (from what i make of it) to product placement on a major supermarkets self ie right in front of the buyers eyes. You pay for the placement.

Im asking out of curiosity because if you ask anyone in advertising/printing etc in Australia ...'where you you draw your images from' ? the first answer you will always get is Getty Images. Is this the same for other parts of the world ?

    Gus:

I buy images from Getty; hard not too as they've swallowed up many smaller online agencies.

I know two commercial photographers in LA who have their portfolios with Getty and they're not ecstatic about the relationship.

Like any product, if your images are hot and viable you'll sell a lot or land lucrative licensing contracts but if not you're paid pennies on the dollar for smaller downloads.

As a buyer I am never disappointed with Getty. They make strict demands on their participating photographers because the demand from the buyer is there. The creativity and quality of the images is what keeps art directors happy and coming back.
