CNAME record set up right?

do have my CNAME record for a domain point just to smugmug.com and the servers pick up the domain from there or........

does it need to be setup as
xxxxxxxx.smugmug.com

?

    PROBLEM:

    IF I setup a CNAME record, peole who simply type in 360photostock.com would not make it to the site.

    ONLY If they type in Http or wwww

    IF I setup the ANAME record, they would reach the site no matter how typed in.

    Yes, it would point the IP address (and problem if smugmug changes it)

    Advice?

    You need to set up a CNAME, but you should probably also set up the "A record" pointing to smug's IP. That's what I did, and what (I believe) most people do. We'll all just have to be aware that if the IP address changes that we'll need to change our domain records.

    thank you....... it's what I ended up doing via phone with my hosting company, just before you replied :-)
