I was thinking of trying this on the last week. Strange I know and I doubt I have a shot but tell me what you guys think:

of course the first one I will have to edit and the second one I will have to shoot again. Or should I just go for a diferent look all together?

Stop thinking and act! That is the first step.

I've always been intrigued by your avatar, so go ahead and reshoot if you don't like your first one.!

The one for your avatar looks like a crazy man looking through from behind some separate reality. I think that the eyes aren't focused on the lens is the key. Actually, each eye seems to be looking at something different.

    The reshoot is less intriguing.

I think I agree as well. So here is one last try:

reversing the colors just to see. I think I like it better. I may tweak the brush stokes and make them smaller. Tell me what you think.

Also when I link in the thread should I upload the full version or the "save for web" version?

The one with your mouth slightly open is more interesting. IMHO

i like the first one better, probably because of the eyes. I think it's a good idea, the effect frames it nicely!

I like the first b&w shot the best of all three. The second attempt is at a different angle and loses that behind the frame feeling, making it look more two dimensional to me. The last one is too bright and losses some of the intensity and drama. I also like the lower crop of the first one. Showing less of the forehead draws more attention to the drama of the eyes.
