Just an assortment of bird pics from the last couple weeks or so. Things are pretty active here around Venice, FL and should get even better over the next few months. Can't wait for this ShinDig to begin and get shooting with all these "wild guys/gals" that are flocking down here.

Thanks for looking.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Ric. Those cranes look like yours...but I assure you they have lived at this same pond for the last two years. There are two adults and two youngins from last year.....that are almost as large as their parents. 4 to date. wings.gif

Thanks Marina. I shoot most all of my ospreys from a boat on the backwaters and Intra-coastal Waterway between Sarasota and Venice, FL. :D They are all over the place. Might be why the neighboring town is called "Osprey". rolleyes1.gif

Mike, you don't need a warm up. Now send those ospreys back up here where we need them. I've been suffering withdrawl for months now.

Thanks Harv. I keep telling you...

THESE ARE NOT YOUR OSPREYS. The local ospreys stick around all year and DO NOT migrate North. They have all the fish they need and must like my company because they are here all the time. I know some do migrate, but not too many. The "locals" are here through the hot summer. I have the photos to prove it. :D

Nice set Mike! Like the shot of the Osprey delivering half-a-fish!

Thanks Glenn. I hate those 1/2 fish shots. These particular osprey seem to only fish off the beach in the Gulf of Mexico. They are too far from shore to shoot fishing...and a boat trip won't work either because it's on the beach and I have to stay out beyond the buoeys. The darn osprey fish inbetween shore and the markers. Kind of tough in the waves to shoot also.

After catching the fish they fly off to the nearby tall pine trees and eat the heads off (and a bit more sometimes) and then return to the nest. They perch so high in the trees it makes it difficult to get a decent shot of them landing with the fish with it's head. I guess the key is to get lucky and catch the fly over from bech to first tree, prior to nest landing.

One of these days. lol. I must have a few hundred headless fish shot. rolleyes1.gif

Thanks George. Venice isn't the only place that has these birds. They are pretty much up and down the coast of Florida....both coasts. :D

    Great set of shots Mike.

Is that one osprey carrying two fish? Either way, that is definitely is my favorite shot.

Thanks Shane. I'm not sure if it's two fish or one mangled up?? Hard to tell on the original.
