Replacing category pages with html and link back via breadcrumb

Hello,
I want to replace some category pages with html-only pages as "index" to other text pages made of html-pages. The problem is the breadcrumb links back to the category page with empty thumbnails. My question is:
Is it possible to change the link in the breadcrumb? Perhaps even better would be to make an html page directly from a category page. I asked in customization and was told I might find an answer here.
So far my best solution is to getting rid of the breadcrumb entirely and link to those index pages in the navigation.
