Google Maps...cool but heavy

I like the google maps for photos but that's one big load.

I see it auto loads the statelite view. Anyone have any examples for loading lighter maps?

Right now I call:

http://maps.smugmug.com/?feedType=geoUser&Data=username

is there a way to call the standard map? anyother tricks for making it load quicker?
