Sunpak 622 and D40

I have an older model 622 with a Nikon dedicated module. Now I read that the sync voltage may be incompatible, and want to know if anyone has the answer.
Is the flash compatible with the newer camera?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bob and welcome to the Digital Grin.

The problem is the "trigger" voltage of the flash, and, according to this page the 622 "might" be OK without protection:

I do recommend and use a Wein SafeSync product for digital cameras using older flash units.

I have 4 Sunpak 611 flashes and I guarantee you "they" are a high trigger voltage (been bit several times.) Normally they are used as slaved units, so they are plenty isolated. I am currently using a 611 as a light source in an improvised slide copier (note the SafeSync on top of the camera):

    Bob,

Sorry, I just re-read your post. The SafeSync does not pass the "dedicated" signals, only the flash trigger. You would loose dedication using it.

It would be your call but for peace-of-mind I suggest you do test the flash for trigger voltage before you decide to connect the flash to the camera. If it's over 6 volts then contact Nikon for a definitive answer.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure I'd use the TTL with this flash, mostly manual mode. I've searched Nikonians and can't find anything, so maybe contacting Nikon directly is best.
