Job3210 - in this case a lot of practice and focus stacking.
GaryT - yes you are right but apart from the reflection in #2 I actually prefer the angle in #1
Picturthis - the tiny fly would have been around 2" or less in front of the lens.
BigAl - think my one looks a bit cleaner - no seriously there are quite a few species of these moth flies some with quite nice wing markings as in your case.
