    It's a pretty popular lens.
    Photodo.com, popphoto.com, photozone.de, slrgear.com all have reviews on it.

Pretty much uniform that it's optics are great. I had it myself. Excellent optics, so so build with loud AF motor with a MF ring that rotates with AF'ing.

If I was looking for a best bang for the bucks fast normal zoom, I'd get it again.

I have one of these and I find it excellent. Sturdy build, fast and sharp it's a good (cheap) lense to look at. I am more of the beginner but I find I want to use this lense over the 10-22 or prime I have.

it is a very good lens IF it performs properly. i had three of this lens and none of them focused right, either front or back focusing. sharpness is excellent (of course if it has the proper focus). focusing speed is pretty fast but loud. probably need to pick up a pair of ear-plugs along with the lens..:D

i hope you can get a good copy.

great lens! just bought a used one myself and it appears to be a good copy. its fast and sharp with good image quality. i find 17-50 covers most of my walkaround distances although I would like a little longer so I am now eyeing something that might extend to at least 70mm. ymmv.
