I lost my car but...

..saved my camera.

I was in a car accident today going home from work, rain started to pour as i was getting off the interstate. I hit something on a road and my car went sliding and fliped upside down in a curve. I was ok, but i couldn't get out of the seat belt, i smell gas fumes and tried to turn the car off, i couldn't pull keys from the ingnition. Apperantly, there was fire truck going down the road and they saw me, pretty much 1 min. after i flipped. They got me in their truck, took blood pressure, etc.. The only thing i could think of is my camera, i kept telling them to go in my car and get the damn camera out. They didn't want to come close to the car, as the gas was still leaking. I was pissed!! Anyway, they went and got my camera for me. :D

I'm ok, my car is probably gonna be totaled, so i called insurance and they'll be sending claim adjuster tomorrow to estimate the damage. I don't care about the car, it's pretty old, but served me well, i was actually looking to buy a new one. I wouldn't be a happy camper if something happened to my cam.
I think i got my priorities wrong. Am i crazy?:dunno

Wow! Glad you're alright. So the real question is, did you immediately get pictures of the car once you got your camera back?

Glad you are okay Marina, and happy about your camera too. I bet I would have reacted the same way!

Get some rest, you'll probably feel things much more intensely tomorrow.

Thank you Ann, i think i'm entering "after shock" stage, i have a slight headache and i got chills. My right ear hurts, i don't know what's wrong with it, there was some dried blood inside. I hope nothing serious. Darn, it. I just want to cry :cry

Glad to hear you're ok. I have to say though, after thinking for a bit after reading this, I'd probably react the same way. I mean, if I was ok and I wanted a new car anyway my first thought would probably be "damn my camera was in there".

Thankfully, I've not been in many accidents. But I remember that after the shock wore off the last time (more than 20 yrs ago now) I shook for hours and hours, and was frightened for a long time. And I wasn't hurt at all - but I ached all over for days.

Hope your not actually hurt, and try to rest. Is there someone home wiht you?

Yes, my son and my BF are home. I'm just occupying myself with computer stuff. I did some photoshooting today and working on pictures. Keeps my mind busy.

I haven't been in any major accidents for well over 20 years. Last time i was in one, i was 18, we hit standing bus, head-on at 60m/hr, all drunk, stupid teens, ya know. Fortunately, there were 7 of us in that little car, saved our lives. deal.gif

Wow Marina, I'm so glad you're ok!!! That is scary. eek7.gif My son hydro-planed on the freeway when he was younger and rolled down an embankment. It's been many years and he has never really got over the scare. He still hates to drive in the rain. How fortunate for you to have the firetruck driving by at the time. Those fire-fighters are true heroes for saving your camera gear! :D I'm with you.....I'd be really bummed if my gear was damaged. Take it easy for awhile!

I'm glad you're ok - and you're very lucky to get out w/ what sounds like only minor injuries. Thank goodness. Roll overs can be scary and often deadly - a colleagues 20ish son was killed this year one such accident.

But, assuming my kids weren't in the car, yeah, I can see how 1st thoughts would be to get the camera. Glad you got it (yeah firemen) and glad it's giving you some distraction now.

Thank you guys for your best wishes and your support!
Spoke to adjuster today, it's going to be a while before they wrap up everything. I'm trying to make it to the towing yard and take few pix of the car. I want to stop at the fire department and snap few shots of my heros :D:D:D, one was really cute!!!

Meanwhile, i'll have to rent one for at least 10 days, as my insurance doesn't have a rental option. Oh well, i found not a bad deal on rental, so should be ok for now.

    Thank you all again!!

Does your BF know about the cute fireman you're about to take pictures of?

I'm glad you're ok. I would've thought the same thing... "Get My CAMERA!" I think we all have special bonds with our cameras, or maybe I'm just a big dork.

And those of you that said you haven't had car accidents in 20 years, I hope you knocked on some wood.

I hope to see pics of the car soon too.
