This is a 10s exposure of the full moon:




I'm a bit puzzled about the flare (if it is just that) - should I remove that?

Nice Catch. I would remove the flare. If you really wanted to, you could get a nice shot of just the moon, and place it over that one. I think it would be clearer, and it would still keep it's original intent.
