Shooting hand held with a cheap 2x tc (no auto focus)on a 300mm in poor light is not fun:dunno;Time for a pro tc.
Anyways I have trouble with Hawk ids ..
you maybe right on the broad wing -if it was shot in canada ?? I do not have a lot of looks at the broad wing the back with the white round areas is why I said red shoulder but my 80% just went to 50%
I'm pretty sure its a redshoulder.
The red coloration is the closest and the black tail banding looks more like the red shoulder then the broad winged.
I shot this in southern ontairo canada;both species are familar in this area with the red shoulder being Rarer in this season.
