We have seen so many hawks in our area this year and I managed to get a few shots of with my new 1D MKIII. Still working on getting the images sharper, these were hand held and ISO 640.

Can some one ID this type of hawk for me?

Hey Dennis nice images. I think that is an immature red tailed hawk.

Thanks Maestro for the comments and the ID of this hawk. I have a hard time with hawks as they all seem to look a like, need to study the bird book more now. Seeing more of them around here this year.

    Thanks again.

What leads me to the red tailed hawk ID is the dark streaked belly band. The immature ID comes from the tail not having the characteristic, uh, red. rolleyes1.gifHawks confuse me too. Sharp shinned vs. Cooper's get me a lot!

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Maesrto, I'm happy that I'm not the only one having problems to ID hawks. The Red Tail is a dead give away, but out it it's hard to tell at times. Thanks again.

Well, I have not been lucky with capturing hawks, but so far this year it has been good for me, and I guess in time, I will be able to ID them as you mentioned it could only get easier in time.
