A few osprey shots

Hi Y'all,

A few weeks ago I ran up to Merritt Island to check out the activity, there wasn't any. :cry

Fortunately the ole osprey nest was still active.

I never saw an osprey carry a fish in its beak before

He was bringing it back to the nest for his mate. Apparently he wasn't that happy to share his catch because he was nibbling on it while he flew towards the nest.

    Harry, these are beautiful shots. The last shot in particular is stunning. I have also never seen an osprey carry a fish in it's beak. This is a first for me. I have always seen them arrive at the nest with the fish and the head gone. Great catch in recording this.

    Now... send some of those guys back up north. I miss having them around since they all migrated south and look forward to them arriving back here in April.

    Awesome, I live at a Fish Hatchery, they come through Spring and Fall, I always know they are here with the peeping noise they make.iloveyou.gif We don't mind and let them do what they do for the time. They are so pretty and curious Birds also. If I'm out in the yard doing chores they will sometimes hover to see what I'm doing lol.

    Great set of pictures capturing bird behavior. The last one is the best "picture" The lighting and the sharpness are something I hope to achieve when the osprey's down here start to nest. They are all over the place and stay year around, they are just not active on the nests.

    What a great series of shots. I really love the pose of his wings in the first and then the captures of him snacking while on the run are outstanding.

    Thanks Harv, no matter how long you do this there's always something new to see.

    We do have a surplus of ospreys down here, there seems to be a nest on every other power pole.

    Nice series Harry. I've never seen an osprey carry a fish by the beak either. wings.gif I never tire of seeing images of these birds. I need to pay mine a visit soon. It's been 2 weeks. eek7.gif :cry :cry

    That figures...no sooner do I tell Mike that I've never seen such nice under wing detail on his Hawk and then I open your post and there it is....great detail under wing!

    They do make a distinctive noise. The female was making a racket trying to get the male to bring the food home. :D

    Thanks Jon and that last one really stood out for me too. I've found that the best place to capture them is around the nest as they fly in and out. Their flight patterns are predictable and they are usually carrying something.

    Seems like a small sound for such a large Bird.
    I'm figuring they must make other noises as well.?
