I am in the process of starting out my business (got my llc, ein etc). signed up for smugmug pro but also signed up for and resitered a domain as well as hosting through a hosting site. my questions are these and I am really hoping some people can help out.
1. can smugmug be used as my main site page with about, contact, package pages within etc
2. did i waste my money in paying for hosting if i am in fact going to use a cname to point directly to smugmug from my domain name i registered?
3. how do i build a site on smugmug pro, i know nothing about html etc...
4. how do i do the cname transfer etc so that when someone types in www.mydomainname.com it goes directly to my smugmug pro page?

I just opened up a SmugMug Pro account over the Xmas vacation and I'm loving it! It does take a while to customize it, but if you read through the SmugMug Customization threads, you'll find much of the info you need.

I know next to nothing with regards to HTML, etc. and was able to customize my page. It's a lot to read through but well worth the time. Also, if you post your questions on that particular thread, you'll get lots of help. I know I did :D

It sounds like we are in similar places in terms of our business! I too am in the process of getting a photography business (hopefully, weddings as soon as I get something of a portfolio) off the ground. I signed up with SmugMug Pro accounts, and also registered my domain name. I'm not an expert, but here are my two cents:

    1. I am planning on using smugmug as my main page. My site is still pretty barebones, but you can see the way I put the information on the site already. It doesn't look quite as smooth as some others (yet), but it is functional.

    2. I don't know.

    3. Start by going to your control panel. At the end of the "customize" line (before you click "customize"), there is a link for "help." I did almost everything using the directions I found by following that link. When I got stuck, I posted the specific question in the Digital Grin forum, and had an answer within a few hours. Usually, someone posted the exact code I needed to fix my problem - it always worked. Just make sure you put a link to your site in your post so they can check it out before they answer.

    4. If you click "settings" under your control panel, one of the options is "domain." You can enter your domain name there. It may take a little fussing to get it perfect, but it's as easy as that.

    Good luck!
