Bean-Bag or "The Pod"?

I use a plain old home-made bean-bag as a camera support. It suits me just fine and the price was right (part of a leg cut off from a pair of jeans and a pound of black-eyed peas).

I am wondering if there would be any advantage to using a "bean-bag" support which has a tripod screw attached - like the "The Red Pod" in the attached image.

It seems to me that rather being advantageous; it might even be detrimental since when moving the camera to frame a shot, you would have to move the entire bag with it. Using a plain old bean-bag with the camera resting on top - you just have to shift the camera slightly to reframe a shot.

Does anyone agree or disagree?

Aside from aesthetics, I would say that if the bean bag has been working for you with great results thus far, I would save the $ for some other new gadget. :D You can always get creative and add a post to your bean bag.

For those with expendable funds, that Red Pod would look real cool with a RRS ballhead and quick release clamp.:D

The Pod offers you a screw to attach it to the camera.

In reality, you don't need (and may not want) the screw. A simple bean bag
that's stitched in the middle (so it folds) is a great support for a solid surface.
You can move the camera as you need to and it won't scratch the surface it's
    sitting on.

I bought the pod while on vacation a couple of years ago. Was $12.00 and filled ta need at the time since my tripod was 1500 miles away. It's usefull and does support a camera with a small lens nicely or a camera with a large lens and tripod collar well. Don't use it much now, but handy enough if I need one. My wife has taken to using it more for her P&S at Scout trainings she gives etc as it is small and quick for her to use when taking group photos etc.
