nice ones - you do get cool effects like this.
esp like the idea in the last one but a pity the drop itself is not in clear focus- mind you that may be hard with the sort of double imaging you get doing this.
I'm really curious about how everyone did their lighting for these shots?
Anyone who posted their "drops on CD's" care to elaborate on their lighting?
Aussiroo's lighting looks awesome, I'd really like to know what you did.
I set the camera up on a tripod, using the Canon 100mm macro, used a syringe to put 3 drops of water on the dvd and the used a very small single LED Bulb torch shining at low angles from various positions. Used the shutter release cable to give me flexibility to move around.

Was it a Blue LED? It took me a minute to figure out what you meant by torch. Then I realized you are from Australia...
Mine where shot with the MPE 65mm lens, set at 1:1 . I just held the dvd under the tap for a second, then tapped the bottom of it really quick and it created a pattern of drops. I then hand held the camera and shot using the MT24-EX dual flash, as well as my 40inch lcd monitor that created part of the pattern inside the droplets.

ps, cool shots aussieroo
pss, i was just reinspired by this thread so much, i just took a bunch more shots, will share a few here, and maybe go start another thread , completely inspired by you matasa, thanks again.
Problem at 1:1 with the M65 is your DOF is paper thin hence your drops are pretty much out of focus. Fewer drops on the same plane and work the light to get different effects. Nice addition to the thread. Thanks for you kind words.
So, thanks to this thread, I was inspired to try again. I'm glad I wasn't alone. Thoughts?? I think I prefer #2.
The only issue I discovered was that I had dust on the CD...
Well done Mat. You look like you had a great time doing this and took a little extra time to set it up. You certainly managed to get all the rainbow colours this time. Very spectactular shot. I printed two of mine out and they do look great printed. They caused a lot of guessing at the camera club meeting I took them to and no one guessed what they were. I had to reveal all to them
