I like my seashell a lot, but I've wondered from day one if the topic demands something more "modern" looking. I've tried several things over the time period, but my computer died (waiting for the tech) so I have not been able to post. Today, I can use my husbands computer for a longer time, so I am posting my new possibility. Please let me know what you think and which fits the challenge theme better.

I actually think the first one does as the scissors are a more recognizable thing than the shell is.

I hope someone else, like DF, looks too.

I just posted a different one, and I will put it on my thread. I really don't like this. I mean this challenge. In fact I don't even want to think about the next challenge, to say the least of wracking my brain again with 50 some entries.

I just want the sun, the warmth and my birds back.

    Ginger,
I really think you have the best feeling for this challenge topic. I remember reading somewhere, something like, "The more minimal it is the longer discription required." So, what your saying is, the better picture for this challenge is one where you look at it and say, "What is it?" You look a little longer in order to figure it out. It should not be representative of anything else, "It is what it is." But, what it is, is a little bit hidden. Have I got it?

I think so. I like the art work best. They can use a whole museum wall to stick up individual pieces to make one large piece.

That was frustrating, to want to do that with photography, and you can't. I got a big book of art, thought I could copy something. That didn't happen as so much was not just one piece.

I like this kind of art basically, but I can't see a challenge on it, it is too personal. IMO I couldn't even live with it, but the high school I went to had some stuff in it like this, it can be soothing.

What is it I copied out of that art book, something like, "there isn't anything to see". It is under my entry.

I guess that pretty well sums it up, but how can one vote that way, why would anyone. I would be very surprised...........

When I was looking at the photography minimalism, I was quite impressed with a simple nail fairly long out of a board or something, then there was quite a shadow from the nail.

So the whole subject was the play of the nail and the shadow. I am surprised there is nothing like that here, and I couldn't just copy it????

I definitely keep going back to the shell for sure. I think it fits the challenge so well and compared to the scissors--while it's a very nice idea--stands above and engages me more as a viewer. thumb.gif

i like the first shot more than the second, especially for this challenge. now having said that, and this is my personal thing, i dont like noise. i jst dont like it. if you got rid of it id like it more, but having sait that i really do like the first shot and most people would probably like it with the noise.

I can only hope to progress to the point of one day being a second rate photographer, wish me luck.

I like them both...I think that the shell is great. I really like the scissors, but as is I don't think fits the theme so well. What if you were to crop it to just the ends of the scissors with the diagonal of the film going thru the center??? I think that might be kind of cool... ne_nau.gif

For me it is definitely the shell, initially I thought it was one of the example shots.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner
Thank you everyone! Ginger, Lynn, Hummungus, Charlie, Digital Fairie, Laurie, Sandy -- Wow, you were all so nice to help me out here. Without my computer, I feel like someone cut off one of my arms or something. I'm going nuts.

My husband's computer is out in a separate building, in his home office. I have to wait until he's not using it. Now it's Sunday and I left him alone in the house for a bit. Had visitors last night too. Anyway, If I had more time I would try some more seashell shots, but it's really too late now, especialy with my computer down. I may play with a crop on the scissors too, but I guess I'll just stay with the shell for now and take my chances. Just feel kind of lost about what a minimalist photo is. For an artist it is a whole different matter than for a photographer. It certainly is a brain teaser.

Thanks all for your input. iloveyou.gif

I don't feel lost. I like that fact that everyone had their own idea on this one.
The different varieties of pictures was great. Looking through the challenge
thread, there isn't a bum in the bunch.

All of your pics have been great, and I know you'll have a hard time choosing
between them. The judges and the voters will have a tough time also.
I'll be real surprised if Andy matches 8 out of 10 with the other judge this time.

Yep, with no samples, everyone had to think up their own. I liked it.
