Making a watermark?

Anyone want to give some advice on making a watermark that will be transparent. I have made a couple using word and an editing app but they all have a white background behind black text, and even when i use the fade feature in Smugmug i still see some of the background. Any tricks to make it so i can only see the text?

    this is the page I used to do mine, I have Adobe PS CS3. You want it to be a PNG file.

    why png and not jpg?

    A png can be transparent, jpg not.

    Allen having trouble getting transparent
    i created a png in photoshop elements, how do i make it transparent without white background?
